Judy Whisnant, Attorney at Law, P.C. handles cases about separation, divorce, custody of children, child support, spousal support, division of property, domestic violence, or a combination of any or all of these.  This is our primary area of practice.  Often we will draft a Separation Agreement and negotiate with the other party or his or her attorney, until both parties agree on all its terms.   Other times it is necessary to bring or defend a law suit in court.   In those cases, if it’s appropriate, we will continue to negotiate in hopes of avoiding further expensive litigation, while also aggressively pursuing our objectives, whether it be to retain possession of the home, safeguard retirement assets, share child custody on an equal basis, or protect a stream of income for a spouse.   As a litigator with long experience, I am a strong and strategic advocate in the courtroom.  In each case I prepare thoroughly and advocate tenaciously for my clients.

Another aspect of family law is adoption. I have had the pleasure many times of helping hopeful parents add to their families or legalize already established parental relationships.  I welcome those cases and frequently offer to handle adoptions for a flat fee, depending on the circumstances.
