A significant portion of our practice at Judy Whisnant, Attorney at Law, P.C. is wills & estates. I have completed hundreds of wills over the twenty-four years of my practice. I treat each client’s needs and wishes individually and try to assist each one in carefully considering how best to provide for their families and/or the charities they care about after their deaths. When I create wills, I recommend that clients also execute powers of attorney and healthcare powers of attorney/living wills. These two documents act together as a package of estate planning documents along with the will.* When necessary, I will make local house calls to discuss estate planning documents with clients who are infirm or disabled from coming into the office.
Judy Whisnant, Attorney at Law, P.C. also handles the probate of estates. Any time probate is an issue, people are grieving the loss of someone they loved. I find it greatly relieves my clients to hand over to my firm the tasks of preparing inventories, contacting creditors, and filing accounts during that time. Barbara Dupre, my paralegal, has an extensive accounting background and is truly gifted at organizing and expediting the probate process. Her work is charged at $50.00 per hour, rather than my hourly rate.
*Please note that we only prepare wills for clients whose gross estates fall under the "estate tax threshold" (currently $2,000,000.00; as of January 1, 2009 $3,500.000.00). Clients with gross estates exceeding that amount will be referred to an estate planning specialist.
